Apura Ingredients in Rio de Janeiro

Apura Ingredients, Inc. was recently given the opportunity to participate in a Low and No Cal Sweetener (LCNCs) informative seminar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The topic of discussion was to update manufacturers of ingredients such as Aspartame, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Saccharin, Stevia and other high-intensity sweeteners of the position that the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is taking. Based on the most recent report released by PAHO in 2016, they are recommending for consumers to avoid products with low and no calorie sweeteners.  PAHO is taking this position without providing any significant scientific evidence of why the consumer should avoid low and no calorie sweeteners. If this regulatory legislation is enacted, it potentially will have a huge impact not only on the beverage and food industry, but also the suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors of Low and No Calorie Sweeteners like Aspartame, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Saccharin as well as Stevia/Reb-A.

Over the course of the next 6-8 months, Apura Ingredients will be participating in seminars, collaborations, and sharing learnings with key stakeholders of the Latin American food and beverage industry. The International Council of Beverages Associations (ICBA) has already released a statement objecting to PAHOs position and provided key references to the effectiveness and usefulness of Low and No Calorie Sweeteners.
