Apura Ingredients at IFT’17
The Apura Ingredients team wrapped up another fantastic Institute of Food Technologists(IFT) exposition in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 28th, 2017. IFT allows for the Apura team to meet with current customers, new customers, suppliers as well attending the many seminars on what’s new in the food industry. Apura Ingredients showcased its newest ingredient PuraSweetTM in a fabulous tasting lemonade that was a hit at the IFT Expo. PuraSweetTM is a proprietary thermal process that enhances the sweetness of our core sweeteners while minimizing aftertaste or bitterness. Its usage level is typically less than 30 ppm and is classified as a natural flavor. PuraSweetTM is best utilized when blended with other sweeteners and can help reduce the calorie levels of many food and beverages. It can be purchased in a liquid or dry form that would be tailored to the customers application. It’s capability to reduce calories without sacrificing sweetness levels or taste helps the food scientist develop products that can be labeled as “sugar free”, “no added sugars”, or “low sugar”. All trends that consumers are now looking for on labels of products they purchase.
Other trends that were noted by the Apura Ingredients team was the interest in alternative Rebaudiosides from the Stevia leaf, specifically Reb D and Reb M. Reb D has garnered a significant amount of interest in the tabletop industry due to a sweetness profile that is less bitter and has less of an aftertaste than Reb A. Reb M, which some claim is the best tasting Rebaudioside is most conducive in beverage applications. Both Reb D and Reb M are challenging to commercialize due to the low levels that are in the stevia leaf. Future trends will most likely shift to a blend of Rebaudiosides that are customized for a food or beverage applications that focuses on taste and cost efficiencies.
IFT also allowed the Apura Ingredients team to attend training on the FDA Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) that became effective on May 31st, 2017. This key food safety legislation will improve the quality and food safety of products that are being manufactured overseas and imported into the US. In 2017, the FDA will be focusing on “Educating not Regulating” the industry on what is specifically required for importers. Our customers can rest assure that Apura Ingredients has already implemented our procedures and policies to ensure the products we import will meet the requirements of the FSVP.
Apura Ingredients will return to Las Vegas on September 27 & 28 to SupplySide West 2017. Come see us at booth G165 at the Mandalay Bay Expo.
