Aspartame
Approximately 200 times sweeter than sucrose, aspartame is a low calorie sweetener used as a sugar substitute in foods and beverages. The taste of aspartame differs from sucrose in the time of onset and how long the sweetness lasts. The sweetness of aspartame lasts longer than that of sucrose, and it is often blended with other low- and no-calorie sweeteners such as acesulfame potassium to produce an overall taste more like sugar.
In addition to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) of the World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization, the Scientific Committee on Food of the European Union (SCF), and regulatory agencies in more than 100 countries have reviewed aspartame and found it to be safe for use. Scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the safety of aspartame, even in amounts far greater than people regularly consume.
With more than 200 studies affirming the safety of aspartame, it’s one of the most thoroughly researched ingredients out there. Contact us today for more information!Kerry Kenny
