The Apura Ingredients™ portfolio goes by many names: low- and no-calorie sweeteners, alternative sweeteners, sugar replacements, high intensity sweeteners, natural sugar substitutes, and the list goes on. Whichever terminology you prefer, however, the goal remains constant: removing sugar and calories from products to improve health while maintaining great taste.

Low- and no-calorie sweeteners are shaking up the food, beverage, and nutraceutical industry’s traditional reliance on sugar, and for that reason, plenty of myths and misinformation surround the category. One of our biggest goals is to combat any and all misinformation with scientific research and regulatory approvals that confirm sweeteners’ safety and efficacy.

Kerry Kenny
Chief Technical Officer

We’re proud to be members of organizations such as the Calorie Control Council and the International Sweeteners Association—global entities consisting of manufacturers and suppliers committed to improving health and wellness through the use of low- and no-calorie sweeteners. The category is one of the most thoroughly researched in the entire food and beverage industry, and that’s due in part to these organizations’ continuous efforts to confirm sweeteners’ safety. We’re committed to educating the industry and the public on the importance of alternative sweeteners in encouraging healthier lifestyles.

Close to eight percent of new products launched in the United States in 2018 featured a sugar-related claim—a trend that’s going to continue gaining momentum as consumers strive for healthier lifestyles. Over 50 percent of those sugar-related claims were “no sugar added,” approximately 25 percent were “sugar free,” around 13 percent were “low sugar,” while 8 percent used a “reduced sugar” claim. Sweeteners like allulose, monk fruit, stevia, and more have become essential tools for formulators developing delicious products that deliver on consumer demand for less sugar.

Consumers are avoiding sugar for many reasons: managing diseases like diabetes and heart disease, controlling their weight, and simply improving their overall health and wellness.

The industry’s movement away from sugar isn’t going to end. Apura’s combined 100 years of sweeteners expertise is the key to competing in the growing sugar reduction marketplace.
